Spare Some Change
(SUGARBEACH)
July 7, 2009
M.Walchuk & N.Callender
The sign said homeless and hungry and I believed him
I emptied my pockets knowing chances were slim
That he’d get the food he was asking for
Or the bus fare out of town
He’s been punching the air and screaming ever since the asylum came down.
Can you spare some change, It will have to be big
These lives and these bodies are far too gone.
Can you spare some change, It will have to be soon
I don’t have an answer I just know it’s wrong.
Her body is fighting the serpent and she’d kill to feed it.
Eye’s darting skin crawling, completely defeated.
When she looks through the crystals she can’t see the filth and slime
Exercising free will but it was only a choice the first time
Can you spare some change, It will have to be big
These lives and these bodies are far too gone.
Can you spare some change, It will have to be soon
I don’t have an answer I j’t know it’s wrong.
What’s it gonna take, time, money, a miracle, love?
Drastic measures, empathy, and all of the above.
Two years ago he was a family man, a wife 2 kids, and a retirement plan
When she left, his work slid till it was out of sight,
Now he’s cleaning my window at the stop light.
Can you spare some change, It will have to be big
These lives and these bodies are far too gone.
Can you spare some change, It will have to be soon
I don’t have an answer I just know it’s wrong.
